Happy Friday, everyone!!
Can you believe Christmas is less than a week away?? I've felt absolutely drained this week as I got the last of my shopping done and squeezed in some more Christmas plans. I'm excited to take some much needed downtime this weekend (if that's possible, lol).
I first came across this survey on Small Home Big Start
. Originally it's from Peanut Butter Fingers
and I thought it would be fun to fill out since the big day is fastly approaching! Feel free to use it on your own blog as well :) Here we go.
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
I have to say, I love a traditional hot chocolate! You can add marshmallows and whip cream to it. Though on Christmas Eve, I always try to make it a tradition to have at least one glass of egg nog.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa would leave unwrapped presents in our stockings and by the fireplace, and then put some wrapped presents under the tree.
3. Coloured lights on tree/house or white?
It's hard for me to pick, because I think white lights are beautiful and classy. But I'm gonna have to go with coloured lights :)
4. Do you have mistletoe?
We do! It hangs in the entrance of our kitchen.
5. When do you hang up your decorations?
My mom usually starts the first weekend in December. I try to start putting things up in my room in late November or also the first weekend in December.
6. What is your favourite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Does Swiss Chalet count? :)
7. Favourite Holiday memory as a child?
All of it, pretty much! Christmas always feels so much more magical when you're a kid! I'd get up in the middle of the night and check to see if Santa had come. Opening presents in the morning with my parents as we played Christmas music in the background, still in our pj's and our hot coca near by. Afterwards, we'd go to both grandparents' house for tasty meals and I'd see all my family and cousins while we showed off our new gifts and chatted about the excitement that day.
8. What is on your Christmas Wishlist?
I feel pretty stumped this year, to be honest! But I am in need of a new mp3 player, maybe some Lauren Conrad novels and some hand creams from Bath and Body Works.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
I do! My sister and I usually open each other's gifts, and now same with Brian and I.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
My mom has kept so many ornaments from over the years, that we basically just take whatever we can find out of the old box, hang up any empty spaces and have some flashy-lights. We used to have tinsel until we got three cats and they wouldn't stop playing with them.
11. Snow? Love it or dread it?
At this point, I feel like I dread it, haha. But I think snow is absolutely beautiful (and should be mandatory) for Christmas time. After New Year's, I'm about ready for spring.
12. Real tree or fake tree?
As a kid, we always had a real tree. I always loved the smell of it and just knowing it was authentic was special. In recent years, we got a fake tree because it was passed along to us from a family-friend. This year, we've kept the "main", artificial tree in the dining room and my dad bought a real, "elf" tree for our basement.
13. Do you remember your favourite gift?
Probably a Dear Diary
or my Blushable Bunny plush
(still one of my faves to this day!). A couple of Christmases ago, Brian gave me a beautiful Trisha Romance print of her painting Easter Bonnets
in a vignettes-style that I treasure so much. Not only only was it put into a gorgeous frame, but it just happened to match my blackout curtains I randomly ordered a few months later!
14. What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?
Having some time off to relax, enjoy, and spend it with friends and family. It's also a great opportunity to think of those less fortunate and maybe help out at a food bank, donate toys, clothing, and/or to your favourite charity. Nothing like spreading Christmas Cheer!
15. What is your favourite Holiday dessert?
I've gotta go with Peppermint Bark
:) I love anything that tastes like Candy Cane during the holidays!
16. What is your favourite tradition?
Opening one present on Christmas Eve while having some egg nog and watching Christmas movies just before midnight hits (though, let's be real -- I have a lot of favourite traditions that would take too long to list!). I'm also really loving the Secret Santa parties we're starting to do every year with some friends :)
17. What tops your tree?
These days it's a star. When I was a kid, it was an angel but alas, it has broken and become worn out over the years!
18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
It's definitely so rewarding to give. Especially if they're not expecting it!
19. What is your favourite Christmas Song?
Leroy Anderson's version of Sleigh Ride. Whenever I play it, my dad says it reminds him of frantic shoppers in a mall, haha but I just think it's very joyous and uplifting. I also love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, of course (Christmas Eve/Sarajevo, Wizards of Winter) and The Hoser Brothers' 12 Days of Christmas :)
20. Candy canes, yuck or yum?
Yum! What can taste more Christmas-y ;)
21. Favourite Christmas Movie?
Home Alone 1 & 2 (I can't separate the two!). Classics.
22. What did you leave for Santa?
Milk and cookies -- sometimes we'd change it up with egg nog -- and carrot sticks for the reindeer.
23. Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?
Being cozy in the mornings with my bathrobe on, getting my morning coffee -- adding a dab of cinnamon to it -- and listening to Christmas songs on the radio. We retrieve the gifts from our stockings first and then huddle in the dining room under the tree for all the bigger goodies.
24. Do you prefer to shop on-line or at the mall?
These days, I actually prefer online shopping. With working all the time and not having a car, it's actually easier for me, and I do always manage to find some interesting, creative stuff I wouldn't normally find in a mall. Plus, it's a great way to avoid those crazy, busy shoppers! I think I don't mind mall-shopping as much if I'm with a friend. This year, Somya was my partner in crime for that!
25. Christmas letter or Christmas card?
Letters are great but I'm gonna say Christmas cards. More traditional, and you can hang them nicely as decoration. Plus, I go all out when giving my cards anywho ;)
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!! :)
