Thank you all so much for the lovely birthday wishes! As I mentioned on Monday's post, it's such a nice feeling getting birthday messages from your friends and family, but this was the first year where I got birthday wishes from other fellow bloggers - and I loved it! So thank you all so much again! I had a really nice 27th birthday (gah, that still feels so weird to say!) And here: I created a 'Lor Peach' YouTube account and uploaded my sister's hilarious singing birthday message to me (she did this later on at night when we were all sleeping, so that's why it sounds like she's whispering a bit. I had quite the laugh when I watched in the morning!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOa2SR6KY2Q&feature=youtu.be
A Blue Jays Win
Over the weekend, Brian took us out for a Blue Jays game; my second one that week. Only this time, they won!
It's a blurry shot, but this was the celebration ending when the game was tied, went into an extra inning, and Donaldson hit a home-run to win the game against the Tampa Bay Rays (6-5!)
Despite the Dome still being closed to check for winter maintenance, the weather was beautiful in downtown Toronto that day. After the game, Brian and I took advantage and walked around for a bit (and got myself an ice-cream off the truck!)
On Monday, my birthday, I came home after a long work day to see these on the kitchen table.
I always feel so spoiled when I see things like this; as exciting as it is, I really don't need much these days and am happy just having some drinks with some good friends. (But hey, if they're there, I'll take a few I guess?)
Even with the cake, I told my mom I was perfectly happy with a simple Deep 'n Delicious McCain chocolate cake rather than something that looked more fancy and store-bought from the bakery department. These only cost about $2.99 - and they're incredibly tasty!
Since my birthday did fall on a Monday night and I had two very busy work days ahead of me, I played up the simplicity. A few friends of mine that I didn't get to see the other weekend insisted they take me out to a nearby tavern called the Monk's Kettle. It was honestly a nice little place near our closest subway station that is known for its great food and yummy craft beers. Brian and I had a few on tap and they definitely lived up!
Birthday Messages From Heaven?
Just over a year ago, I lost my uncle to multiple sclerosis. Last year when I turned 26, it was my first birthday without a phone call from him and I felt myself getting a little emotional at one point about it. A few hours later, I saw the movie An American Tail on TV, with the mouse Fivel. As a kid, Fivel was my favourite movie character and I used to dress up as him all the time. Nobody called me Fivel more than my Uncle Brian did - and I totally took this as a birthday message from him!
When I went to the Monk's Kettle and was placed with a Muskoka coaster in front of me, I immediately thought of my uncle again; he has a cottage up in Muskoka that he practically lived at (when he was cremated, my cousin told me they found an urn called 'Muskoka Marble' with a pine tree and lake carved on it that called out to them. They knew it was meant for him). I took some comfort that this was his way of wishing me a happy birthday :)
A Few Gifts Shared
When my family asked what I wanted this year, I honestly just told them a yoga mat. My sister and I are planning to sign up for classes soon so I knew I'd need one. I got one, along with a few other things I'll share:
Brian surprised me with a Kobo ereader. Alright, I knew he was getting me one all along ;) He had mentioned it before and asked if I actually wanted one. I was always on the fence about these things because at the end of the day, I love to hold an actual book in my hands. But when he told me you could download books from the library onto this thing with your card and that it was light-weight to commute with (if you had large books!) I knew it could definitely come in handy. His parents threw in a Kobo giftcard so I could start making a few purchases too, and I have to say, I love it so far!
I had mentioned that I wanted just a few muti-coloured pens for when I'm jotting things down in my agenda. My mom somehow found this awesome package of a bunch! And my sister got Lea Michele's CD, along with a Paul McCartney DVD and a Blue Jays tank top for those hot and humid days at the Dome.
Brian's family also got me a sparkling white wine. They know I love my Freixenet wine and opted for something similar and different for me to try. I also got an electric kettle so I can boil water and get into the habit of drinking more tea in my evenings!
And now, I'm ready to see what 27 has in store for me!
