How I Spend My Weekends

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post on how I spend my week nights aka my evenings after a work day. It was a fun little post to write about (it got me in a cozy mood!) and so I decided to write one for: How I Spend My Weekends. With weekends, things tend to vary based on plans but for a typical one, here's what I'm usually up to!:

Sleeping in. Ah, my favourite :) Nothing I love more on a Saturday or Sunday morning then stretching about in the covers, checking the time and realizing it's the weekend and I can go back to sleep. I typically wake up between 9:30 am - 10:15 am with a good night's rest.

Relaxing Mornings. The best. For five days a week, you're up at the crack of dawn and rushing around to get out the door on time. So when it comes to a Saturday or Sunday morning, I wake up naturally, get my morning coffee and just sit for a bit as I ease into my day. If I'm really into a current book, I'll read for a bit or skim through some magazines.

Take the cats out. You'll usually hear people say they have to walk their dog. Yet in our crazy family, we take our cats out in the morning, weather permitted. I love sitting outside in our backyard in the mornings and as long as the cats are under control, having them run about and enjoying the outdoors is always a nice way to start the day.

Workout. At some point in the early afternoons, I try and make time for some home exercises. It can be so difficult during the work week to get in a good workout so I try my best to make up for one or two during my weekend time.

Clean. For the most part, I'm a clean person and my room is generally kept neat and tidy. During busier weeks though, I may have things scattered about that I didn't get a chance to organize or put away properly and so, I try and get that done at some point on my days off. Call me mild OCD but I love being in a well-kept environment!

Errands / Shop. Ah, yes. If Brian has a Saturday morning off before work, his mom enjoys taking us shopping and having some lunch in the mall food courts. Because we usually go a bit earlier, we avoid the big crowds that come later in the afternoons. Afterwards, I may go back to his house for a bit for some coffee and relaxing. If Brian's at work and Somya is around - we go shopping and get our errands done. Somya loves to drive everywhere and anywhere so if we get the chance, we'll go all around town during a Saturday afternoon - and refuel ourselves with a quick McDonald's meal! I gotta say, I quite love it ;)

Day Excursions. Just like I did this past weekend, I may go meet a few friends downtown if there's a day event going on, or just for the heck of it, meeting up and going out to sushi later. I'm lucky enough to live close to a city that always has something going on - like baseball games, outdoor festivals or just nice parks to walk through. My friends and I are always up for fun activities like this and we love to take full advantage on the weekend if we can.

Care For a Drink? I admit: a lot of my Saturday evenings usually consist of a drink or two at a nearby pub with good company. It could be someone's birthday celebrations - or just celebrating the fact that it's the weekend. We usually do this more in the warmer weather; I love sitting out on a patio when it's still warm at night! Sometimes in the colder months, Brian and I are perfectly content having a few drinks at my place and watching My Cousin Vinny, Jimmy Fallon's Thank You Notes or the newest SNL episode. Bliss.

Relaxing: Reading, TV,You-Name-It. Sometimes, I just love to stay home and take it easy! Especially if I had a busy Saturday or want a quiet Friday night in, I'll kick back, put on some sweats and flip through the TV channels and watch a good movie with some tea or the baseball game. In my books, it's the perfect way to de-stress and relax!

Sit Outside. I find especially on a quiet Friday night or Sunday evening, I enjoy starting off my weekend or ending it by taking some time to enjoy the great outdoors. We have a lovely little swing in the backyard (and a lawn chair!) and I love just sitting back and enjoying the serenity of it all. Since I'm usually cooped up in the office during the week, I try and make up for it during this time off.

Computer Time. During the warmer months, I actually don't spend as much time on my laptop as I probably do in the winter (which is why you'll notice I don't usually blog on the weekends). For one thing, I'm usually on the computer enough at work that afterwards, I sometimes don't wanna be five feet near a computer screen! That said though, I do enjoy spending a Saturday morning or quiet Sunday afternoon catching up on some email, blog-reading, or Pinterest boards just to see what's been going on in the virtual world lately.

Sunday Evenings. Even though I may be getting some last minute things done before a busy work week, I gotta say, I do enjoy Sunday evenings! Brian and I may take a walk together or watch some TV at his place (Licence to Grill!) or I may even grab coffee with a friend. Sometimes my Nonna comes over and we'll have a BBQ and some espresso with a light dessert after dinner. It's always a nice way to end the weekend.

And there you have it!

How do you usually spend your weekends? Does it vary from time-to-time or more or less follow a similar routine?
