Happy sunny and hot Friday, folks! We've been having incredibly humid and very warm weather lately - and I love it! Anything that isn't minus -40 and has a windchill that makes me wanna cry makes for a happy day. I almost "enjoy" waking up in my early mornings and seeing the sun shine through my window and the birds chirping. It reminds me of our Florida trip over four years ago now (ugh, has it seriously been that long?!) when I'd wake up in the early mornings feeling refreshed and energized to beautiful sunshine and clear, blue skies.
Lenny Pretty-Much-Fully Recovered
Last week, I wrote about how one of our cats, Lenny was slowly starting to recover after spending two nights in the vet and having some mysterious fever. I am very happy to report that he is doing much better and is pretty much almost back to his normal self! Thank you all so much for your well wishes on him! :)
We still don't exactly know what happened. He hadn't eaten or drank any water in two days - which we learned can be very dangerous for cats! Apparently, this can damage their liver after two days of being dehydrated, whereas dogs can go for longer periods. The vet had confirmed he had a fever but after some treatment, it went down. His kidneys were functioning fine, which was great but they figured his liver might have had some sort of infection. To fully confirm with more tests would have cost a lot of money (more than we already spent!), but because he started bouncing back nicely, Lenny was sent home and each day got a little better. We hoped, if anything, he just accidentally caught a little virus that passed through his system.
He took a spot on his favourite swing a few days after he came home.
The little squirt is back to his old self :)
Doors Open at the Seam Whistle Brewing in Toronto
Last weekend was Doors Open in Toronto. I had never heard of this event until last week, but basically it's when over 155 beautiful historical buildings across the city are open to the public to explore for free access. What a neat idea!
Because the Steam Whistle is right across from the Rogers Centre, the place was filled with Blue Jays fans afterwards!
Arica and her boyfriend, Jason shared this amazingly tasty pork bun from Momofuku.
Beautiful day in the city!
Bought A Fan for Those Hot Days!
With those hot summer nights upon us, I knew I had to do something about my room-temperature situation: for the past few years, my bedroom has always been scorching hot in the middle of the night! I'd wake up sweating and totally unable to sleep (there's nothing worse than sleeping in a hot room!). I accidentally bought a blasted air conditioner for my room ... and then when I saw it was impossible to ensemble, I returned it in exchange for a simple room fan from Walmart ($20!).
It takes up a bit of space in my already kind-of-crammed-room... but it does the job. I've been able to sleep so much better these past few nights. I wish it was something I bought a long time ago!
It rotates, so my cats were pretty intrigued by it. And I think Cartney actually loves it. I've noticed that any time I turn it on, he takes a seat right in front of it.
Spring Slowly Turning Into Summer
I find this year especially, I've been so incredibly grateful for warm weather and the first signs of Spring and Summer (I think it's because my commuting this past winter was so brutal!) So I'm always snapping pictures of the beauty of it all; I can't resist!
My mom last Saturday morning sipping on her coffee and watching the cats in the backyard.
Our dad's infamos old car! Andrea and I have many happy memories of us as kids driving around in this thing: our dad would put the roof down, blast some classic rock tunes, and take us to an Italian ice-cream shop or perch it somewhere and we'd watch the planes take-off and land by the airport. We'd really like to relive these happy memories again soon.
I woke up one morning to a beautiful flowering bush that had just blossomed in our front yard. This image reminded me of Holly's blog at Something Lovely (be sure to check hers out if you can! It's a beautiful little blog).
I'm really horrible at taking selfies (it's something I'd like to work on?) so here was my attempt.
I'll keep working on it.
Little Garden Has Started!
Every year, we plant a little garden in our backyard and grow lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber for our salads at dinner time.
My dad cracks me up: every spring, he puts on those tall rubber boots and sits in this tiny stool as he plants the lettuce heads.
Brian and I are planning on putting some tomatoes and other goodies in next week, hopefully!
Yesterday, Brian and I took a walk, but unlike our regular routine, we went down a different path and found ourselves taking an unexpected but fun little "hike" right in our neighbourhood.
We had no idea such beautiful mansions were just down the street from us!
Brian is a regular "Indiana Jones," don't ya think? ;)
The end of the path led to the park!
A bit further of a walk and Brian ended up finding his old house. We live pretty close to each other as it is, but before he moved (when he was 5) he literally lived a 5 minute walk from my house down the road! (now by walking distance, it's about 15-20 mins. Or a 5 minute drive).
A Classy Evening at Casa Loma
Last night, a few friends and I got together for a lovely evening at the stunning Casa Loma. It was all part of a university grad / alumni event held by the University of Toronto. I myself, actually attended Ryerson but students of U of T were allowed to bring guests - so Miche brought Andrea and I, and we met up with a few of other friends.
We had such a nice time! More to come on the blog about it.
I hope you're all having a lovely Friday! What are your plans for this weekend? (p.s. who else is looking forward to summer?! :D )
