A Typical Morning Routine

In the last month or so, I wrote two blog entries on How I Spend My Week Nights and How I Spend My Weekends. And now today, I'll be sharing how I go about my morning routine :) I, for one, am not a morning person. At all really (I love sleep too much), though I really wish I was sometimes (it would be so handy!) As I mentioned in my How I Spend My Week Nights post, I aim to get things like packing my lunch and even preparing the espresso all done the night before. I'm pretty hopeless in the mornings so getting those tasks out of the way makes for a much smoother wake-up call. Here's what a typical morning usually looks like for me!:

♥ 5:45 am - 6:00ish am: Wake-Up Call. I know, this is so freakishly early. The reason I wake up so early is because I typically start work between 8:00 - 8:30 am, and I'm a commuter. Plus, I prefer enjoying my morning coffee and catching a bit of the news before rushing out the door right away!

1.) I wake up to my radio alarm-clock (which I love over any cell phone alarm) 2.) Switch on my bedside night-light 3.) Gather my house-robe, slippers, and pull back the curtains to let in the morning light

♥ 5:50 am - 5:57ish am: Wash Face. Because I have such an early wake-up call, I always shower the night before (ideally though, I prefer showering in the mornings) but sometimes I'll wash just my bangs in the mornings. I make a conscious effort to always wash and moisturize my face during this time, too. I spend about 5-7 extra minutes washing and lathering my face with a facial cleanser, rinse it, pat it down dry and moisturize (I've always had super-sensitive, acne prone skin so I've been using Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser and Clinique's Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief).

♥ 5:57ish am-6:03 am: Make the Bed. It's a bit of a pain in the neck but since I'm mild OCD, I always make my bed every morning. I just feel so much better when it's all neat and I like coming home to well-kept sheets rather than a jumble of a big mess!

♥ 6:05 am - 6:10 am: Make-Up. While making my bed, I've let my face dry off and next my make-up is applied. I use cleanser wipes (Garnier Skin Naturals Cleansing Wipes), foundation (Clinque's Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup), a bit of blush (Maybelline's Dream Bouncy Blush) and a small dab of mascara and liquid eye linear to make myself look presentable (and awake!) for the world. Sometimes bronzer (MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish).

♥ 6:10 am - 6:20 am: Coffee, Weather-Check, Brush Teeth. Once done, I head downstairs and: 1) Start brewing the espresso (which was set up the night before so all I have to do is turn on the oven and wait for it to boil) 2) Physically, go outside on the front porch and scope out the weather conditions 3) Brush my teeth - depending on which office I'm going to that day, sometimes I do this while the coffee is boiling or just after I've had my first mug. 4) Sit and check Instagram as I continue to wait for the coffee to boil over. It's both relaxing and stimulating to pour over some pretty Instagram photos at this time in the morning for me.

♥ 6:20 am - 6:40 am: Coffee Bliss, Morning News, Get Dressed. Once the coffee boils, I pour myself some, head back upstairs and watch a bit of the morning news in my room. As the coffee starts to cool down, I enjoy it while catching some breaking news and before I know it, I start putting together a quick wardrobe for the day, put the contacts in, touch up my eye liner, quickly tousle my hair and - if time!, I enjoy one more cup of espresso and have a light breakfast (it's probably not good, but most mornings I don't have breakfast. It's just way too early for me, but I do eat by the time I get to work at just after 8:00 am).

Just look at that jumble of a mess!

♥ 6:45 am - 6:50 am: Last Minute Packing, Double Check Bus Schedule. Within these few minutes, I grab my lunch from the fridge (also packed the night before!), pack any last minute things like my phone charger, and double check my bus app to prepare catching the next one (it usually comes at the same time every day, but with our public transit system, you can never be too sure!). I also make a very important note to unplug a lot of my plugs and outlets in my bedroom. Since I have so much electrical stuff in there (ie. the TV, the fan, lamps, etc.) I do this every day to prevent any kind of overheating and temptation for the cats playing with the cords.

♥ 6:50 am - 7:15 am: Bus Tokens, Music - Done! I grab my bus tokens, house keys, turn on my mp3 player and head out into the fun working world!

♥ 8:30 am - 9:30 am: Later Mornings at the Old Office. There are many mornings where I go to my former office and work very flexible part-time hours (which I'm so grateful for!) In those cases, I usually head out the door sometime after 9 (I wait for the morning rush to die down!) and in the meantime, I may write up a blog post or at least begin a draft. It's often a nice way to ease into my days.

And there you have it!
