For two full days, it rained the entire time in Ontario this weekend. If you listened carefully, you could hear the pitter-patter of raindrops. When you looked outside, you could see droplets spluttering into the garden, and when you went outside, you could feel the cool breeze and rainy air in the atmosphere.
Sometimes, I love a good rainy day because it gives you the ultimate excuse to do nothing - but two full days of it can make a person go a bit stir crazy. Regardless of two full, agonizing days of miserable weather, here's what I typically like to do on a rainy day with nothing to do!:
Before my days of blogging and working full time, I wrote down everything in a notebook, and I loved it! There's just something so therapeutic about putting a pen to paper and this weekend, I was finally able to do that after a very long time.
I just found an old dollar store notebook and a very simple pen, but I've always found having a nice journal makes for a better and more enjoyable writing experience.
♥ Cuddling Under the Covers & Movies It's dark and grey outside: aka it automatically puts you into ultimate cuddle mode. I grabbed some snacks, switched on my dim lamp, lit a scented candle and enjoyed an afternoon watching movies on TV. The cats love it too and would come and join every so often.
♥ Read I love reading but have a hard time finding the right time when I can really sit down and enjoy a book. When there's very little to do in the house, it only makes sense to whip out a book and get a few chapters down. You can forget for a moment you're cooped up in the rain and be transported to another world.
♥ Sketch Like reading and writing these days, it's difficult for me to find the time and focus to sit down and do a really awesome sketch. I love drawing and always feel so pleased after a finished product I worked so hard on, so this weekend I looked through my old sketch book. I discovered I have a bad habit of starting drawings - and then forgetting to finish them. I took out my old watercolour pencils and set to work.
♥ Stay Cozy With two days being cooped up inside, I lounged around in sweats and let my face breathe by putting no make-up on. I didn't particularly feel all that great when I looked in the mirror, but it makes for getting up and ready on a Monday morning that much more motivating than normal!
♥ Organize & Catch Up Since I'm stuck in the house on such a grey day, I think about some things that could be done in the house that I normally wouldn't do if I was out and about: I organize my receipts, check off things from my agenda, sort my clothes and put things away that I didn't get a chance to do throughout the work week. Since I took out my sketch book for the first time in awhile, I also cleaned and organized my little art station in the dining room. It went from being a mess to spick and span.
♥ Blog Ideas Sometimes I go through periods of writer's block and other times I'm bubbling with ideas for the blog. This weekend I really took some time to brainstorm lots of ideas for upcoming posts and either jotted them down in my agenda or started to make some rough drafts. I also check off any photography I might need to add in later.
♥ Relax, Reflect, Listen to the RainIf you can't beat 'em - join them! One of my favourite things is sitting in the living room with the screen door open and listening to the sound of the rain. There's just something so relaxing about listening to the rain and thunder outside, that I can't help but tune out for a bit and just take a moment to appreciate Mother Nature.
