Happy Friday: Cat Birthdays, Laying Low & Fresh Banana Bread

Is it just me or did this week just sort of fly by? Maybe it's just been the nice weather lately? Either way, it's felt like a bit of a smooth one! Ever since the weekend though, my stomach has been a bit off and kind of achy so I've been doing my best to lay low this week and take it easy.

Happy 5th Birthday, Ringa & Cartney!

Over the weekend, Ringa and Cartney turned 5 years old (they are brother and sister!) They may be Canadian cats but they share an Independence Day birthday (we didn't actually adopt them until sometime in mid-August). Because their birthdays are already on such a significant day, it's always nice to acknowledge.

It's hard to believe we've had them both for five years already! I was away in Detroit this weekend but when we came home, I made sure to give these guys extra "squishy" hugs (for anyone wondering, Lenny came along a little bit later! You can read the story here).

Laying Low

I couldn't exactly tell you what's been going on with my stomach lately, but almost every night this week after work, I've been experiencing some achy pains. I'm trying to figure out if it's maybe something in my diet I'm not getting enough of (or too much of?) or not moving around enough at work; I sit at a desk but I usually always make a conscious effort to move around every so often (and I've never really had this problem before). Any suggestions?

I skipped out on softball and some other plans this week to take care of myself. I've been relaxing, catching up on some reading, drinking hot water with lemon slices and exercising. And spending some time outside.

Fresh Banana Bread

This upcoming weekend, I'm getting together with a few girlfriends for a special occasion and wanted to bring along some yummy banana bread (accompanied with my traditional veggie tray).

I so dearly wanted to make it from scratch, but with an upset stomach this week I decided to take the easy route and bought Robin Hood's Quick Bread banana bread mix. You just add two eggs, a cup of water, 1/3 of oil to the mix, and you're good to go!

They come in a few other, tasty-looking flavours too!: Cinnamon Swirl, Lemon Poppy Seed and Chocolate Chip (click on the link to see more!) My personal favourite has always been the traditional banana so I stuck with that. I'd love to try out the other flavours one day though.

It looked so delicious that we baked an extra helping for our family to share :) I can't wait to try some at lunch today.

And now, hooray for the weekend! What will you be up to?
