Happy Friday: Weekend Swims, Dinner By the Poolside, & A Dear Friend's Baby Shower

It's Friday and dreary out there today. Anyone else feel like they could sleep? Sometimes I wish my work desk had a pillow and a nice, cozy blanket where I can just curl up and nap for about 5-10 minutes. But then I guess I wouldn't get much work done? At least there's Saturday to sleep in a bit. Here's my weekly Happy Friday post!

Let The Weekend Begin

We had beautiful weather last weekend and it really put me in a great mood. Nice weather means more time spent outside for walks and fresh air, and I really tried to take advantage.

Brian and I spent our Friday evening at our friend, Julius' place (he's also Brian's neighbour!). As I wrote last winter, Julius has a neat little bar area set up in his basement, right down to the bar stool and table. We took a seat, had a drink, and all caught up.

Saturday morning was beautiful and quite hot outside. After pouring my coffee, I took Cartney out who only loves to sit among the bushes and plants when it's that humid out.

It makes a lot easier to watch him when he's feeling this lazy :)

My dad also took advantage of the hot weather to re-paint the driveway. It makes me happy to see him staying active and positive.

A Poolside Afternoon

Later that afternoon, I went for a swim at Brian's house. With the extra humidity and constant sun, it was a perfect pool day.

Plus his backyard is nice and quiet (unlike mine) so moments like this, I really love:

It really is great knowing someone who has their own private pool!

Dinner By the Poolside

We went all out, too and decided to have dinner by the poolside. What else could be more Summery?

It was a little similar to what we did just a few weeks earlier, except this time we decided to make shrimp tacos accompanied by a tasty Greek salad (and wine, of course).

Brian peeling the shrimp-skin and looking only, oh too happy to do so.

And then we he cooked them.

Brian cooking - and flipping! - the shrimp (accompanied by Blue Brothers music and asking if I was just taking a picture at the end):

Along with some garlic and oergano, Brian also added few extra ingredients for more flavour: black pepper, paprika, sea salt, and chili.

Look how yummy that looks!

I helped grate the cheese for toppings and we added Renee's Mediterranean Greek Vinaigrette to our salad. For anyone wondering, this dressing is amazing!

The tacos were done and ready to be served!

And the greek salad with the dressing looked so appetizing.

Picture perfect, huh? (And you can bet it all tasted as good as it looked!) (More under Bon Appétit)

Baby Shower For a Dear Friend

Remember the banana bread I made last week?

I had mentioned I wanted to make some for a special occasion I was celebrating with some girlfriends over the weekend. And that was celebrating our friend Mayra, who is due to have a baby boy in just a few short weeks! We are all so happy and excited for her, and just look how great she looks for a glowing mama-to-be!

She is having a baby shower next week with her extended family, but us girls just wanted to do something nice and small for her. One of our friend's condo offered the perfect party room in her building so we decided to do it there.

The decorations were kept simple, but so incredibly creative!

White and yellow streamers, and blue, white and yellow balloons to keep the theme of a baby boy.

I absolutely loved this and thought it was such a neat idea: baby bowling-ball pins aligning the top and the garland included baby socks and some mittens that Mayra got to take home.

My friends can seriously be so creative: this was cake mix cut up to look like cars. They were covered in white and chocolate icing, Smarties at the side for the wheels, and a teddy bear graham cookie on top.

These honestly looked professionally done: confetti-mix cupcakes with vanilla frosting dyed blue (with food colouring) and the top included mini baby pins and bottles from Bulk Barn.

Along with some smaller things, we all pitched in and got Mayra a baby bouncer that was on her registry.

After gifts, we played some baby-themed games. The winner won the jelly beans in the middle (but really, we all got to take one home!)
