Today is officially the first day of winter - and we have rain here! It feels more like the first day of spring than Christmas time. I'm still praying for a little bit of snow in the hopes of having a white Christmas but we might just have to grin and bear it. It could be worse!
Last week when I was listing my favourite Christmas movies, I noticed a lot of my favourite TV specials were also at the back of my mind. So I thought I'd do a little "classic" list on my favourite TV Christmas specials :)
Forever my favourite! I also love any Christmas ornaments and figurines that have to do with this infamous Christmas special.
I don't see this one on TV too much but if I'm lucky enough to catch it, I have to sit down and watch it all the way through. It's classic Disney and one of my favourites.
I just got the DVD of this last year but even still, I always love catching the live version on TV. For some reason, it just feels that much more exciting. And I always thought Rudolph was cute (and Santa seemed a bit..oh, I dunno - harsh in this verison?!)
I never see this one on TV any more either, but I love it just the same. It stars a young Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen who run away from home (to give their single mother "a break") and set out on a journey to go to their grandma's house for Christmas.
Hey, it may be Sesame Street, but I love this old TV special of Elmo Saves Christmas! Elmo gets a magical snow globe for Christmas where he's granted three wishes; one of them, where he wishes it was Christmas every day. Using his new reindeer friend, Lighting, they're able to fly into the future together and see what life would actually be like if his wish came true. They both discover that it's no picnic in the park! And from there, try and figure out how they can save Christmas back to its original form.
I love, love, love the Saturday Night Live Christmas episodes! It's the one thing that every one in our house agrees on watching every year. We love Will Farrel singing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year", Alec Baldwin as the bossy elf, and Jimmy Fallon along with his little musical group singing "I Wish It Was Christmas Today".
SNL during Christmas time usually always means Paul McCartney makes an appearance, too. You can imagine we love that even more around here! This past Saturday when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted, Paul made a brief surprise appearance at the end singing alongside with Bruce Springsteen and his band to "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
I always felt heart-broken when that magician melted Frosty in order to get his magic top hat back. Thankfully, Santa comes in to save the day and you can bet it ends happy.
And there you have it! What are some of your favourite Christmas specials??
