Getting Ready in the Month of February

Happy February! ♥ It's crazy to think how fast the month of January just whipped on by. We've been having unseasonably warm weather here in Ontario and on top of that, tomorrow is Groundhog Day! (will we get an early spring or a surprise winter blizzard?) February can feel long and dull, so I love nothing more than to take things up a notch and get in a little "holiday" spirit:

Some Valentine's Day decoration from last year.

We plan on decorating similarly this year and this time around, Brian and I also wanna give the Lakeshore House a bit of some red and pink flair.

The Superbowl is this upcoming Sunday. And even though I really have no idea what's going on, we still like a good excuse to get-together with some friends and indulge in yummy comfort food. We'll be pigging out like we did last year and take part in a fun "Superb Owl" quiz.

It's time for Valentine's Day ideas! Last year, I put together a homemade mailbox for Brian and this year, I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to present all the goodies.

It also means I get to brainstorm some recipe and treat ideas. Previously, I made a simple chocolate cake in a heart-shape pan from the dollar store and mixed red food colouring in vanilla frosting to get the pink colour.

I also researched some chocolate and peanut-butter recipes (Brian's favourite treat combination). Using AllRecipes.com and some more heart-shape cookie cutters, I made a tasty dessert of heart-shaped cookies in his favourite flavours.

We also get an extra day off in the month: Family Day!

I always enjoy filling out a good survey for the blog, like the ones I did at Christmas, in autumn, and even for Around the House. For February, I created my own survey highlighting everything that comes to mind during this month:

These are just a few things I'm looking forward to this month :)

What are you looking forward to?  Hope you're all staying caffeinated on this start to the week!
