A few weeks ago, I wrote a Part 1 post on our beautiful trip to Florida. I'm finally sharing Part 2 with you now! Part 2 will consist of the city of Dunedin, and watching Spring Training of the Toronto Blue Jays!
Going to Florida to watch the Blue Jays Spring Training was one of our primary focuses when booking our trip. We're both baseball fans and along with having the excuse of going somewhere nice and warm, we thought this was a great score for our next trip!
We saw two games of baseball during our 5 day stay. Unfortunately, both games we saw came with some cloudy, unpredictable weather. We made the best of it though!
The town of Dunedin really targets their Toronto-based fans. They know a lot of people come from up north to support their team, and the locales really make their visitors feel welcome and at home.
We walked around the nearby town for a bit before settling down at the game.
We noticed a lot of homes in the area supported the "Florida Orange" symbol. Florida really does have amazing OJ!
We finally made it to the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium!
Inside the stadium was packed with Jays fans! I was so impressed with the turn-out!
If you walk to the very end of the stadium, you reach a little alley way that leads you this opening: you get to see the players up close and personal as they warm up!
How cool is this!?
One by one, the players came out onto the field. Below is Superman, Kevin Pillar:
A few of them in the distance skipping, and doing laps. The one jumping is Ryan Goins.
Number 19 is none other than José Bautista (think: the famous bat flip of game 5 last October!)
Remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about meeting Marcus Stroman? Here he is!:
And the Blue Jays's very own MVP (Most Valuable Player), Josh Donaldson.
Finally, game 1 against the Philadelphia Phillies began with Marcus Stroman on the mound!
We were a bit worried that we were going to get rained out on this game but this time, we were lucky. And they ended up winning!
After the game, we went on a long mission to find some food to bring back to the hotel. We decided to walk - which took a lot longer than expected! But we admired some of the sights and views along the way, like these heron birds!
I would see this combined Peanut Butter and Jelly jar in movies and wondered why Canada never thought to bring this genius idea into the country!
The next day was game 2 against the Tampa Rays! Once again, we witnessed the warm-ups.
This time, the weather seemed worse...it looked like it would downpour at any minute!
...Which it eventually did! The game was paused for a rain delay, and Brian and I ran to the nearest booth to purchase these ponchos. It was really just a fun excuse to wear them and be part of the "action." ;)
Everyone piled under doing their best to stay dry. After almost an hour of waiting, the game was finally cancelled. Bummer! We were grateful though that we at least experienced one game. During this time too, I also bought myself a Spring Training tank top that I can't wait to wear in the summertime!
Watching the Jays Spring Training in Florida - can be checked off our bucket list!
