The final part of our Florida trip is finally here! Part 1 talked about our time in Tampa, as we stayed at the beautiful Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort. Part 2 was about our time visiting the city of Dunedin and watching the Blue Jays Spring Training games. Now Part 3, the final part!, will talk about visiting our old school friend who lives down in St. Petersburg and our time in that beautiful part of town. Here we go!:
On our last two days in Florida, Brian and I took an Uber down to St. Petersburg to stay with our old school friend, Ashley. We all went to school together, and Ashley had moved down to Florida with her family during high school for her father's business. As much as I missed her, we always managed to keep in touch. She'd still come up to Canada a few times to visit family, but she was constantly always asking me to come down to Florida and see her. Back in 2011, I did visit her for the first time! And now, we'd be making an appearance again :)
Ashley was living in a cute little Florida home with her boyfriend and son. During the day, everyone was at work and school, so Ashley was kind enough to leave us her key and let us get settled in.
With these couches, their place was the perfection of cozy! Brian and I got our things together and were set on a mission to get some food. It was about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and we hadn't really eaten anything!
Ashley left us some of her bikes in the garage if we wanted to go into town. We had this whole, nice vision in our head of us riding our bikes along the beach and stopping for food! Unfortunately, the reality was a bit different.
The bike Brian was using had an extremely tall seat that was impossible to adjust! After a few attempts, we knew it just wasn't going to work. In the end, we ended up just ordering some pizza.
Afterwards, we decided to sit out in the backyard for a bit. I nearly jumped when I reached to open the back gate - these lizards were everywhere!
Not too long after, Ashley came home from work with her son, Cameron. She immediately made me a drink as we sat, chatted and caught up with life. Meanwhile, Cameron had taken a keen interest to Brian. The two of them were playing soccer, t-ball and basketball all in a span of half an hour.
Once Ashley's boyfriend, Ryan came home from work, they all took us out to dinner.
A short drive away and we were in beautiful downtown St. Petersburg. I couldn't get over how breathtaking everything looked!
Ashley and Ryan wanted us to get the full Florida experience by eating somewhere right by the ocean. We loved the idea only, there was a huge line-up to get into the place.
So in the meantime, they took us around the area to explore.
Like the rest of us, Cameron was definitely getting hungry and could barely contain his excitement for the food.
Finally, we made it in and enjoyed a very yummy dinner of lots of fish and calamari.
The next morning while Ashley and Ryan headed off to work and Cameron at school, Brian and I had a whole entire day to ourselves before our flight later that night. It was a beautiful day and we couldn't wait to get out on the town. Not before having some breakfast and coffee (for me!) by none other than our wonderful house guests:
We were so happy to have some beautiful weather. We spent the entire afternoon walking around in downtown St. Pete's, getting some food and I was finally happy to be getting a bit of a sun tan :)
It really was the perfect, most pleasant day weather-wise. It was hot, but also had a nice breeze.
We stopped for lunch at a nice restaurant just on the corner outside. It was perfect patio weather and we managed to snag a great meal that was decently priced with even better portions!
Gotta love America!
After lots of walking around and indulging in a yummy ice-cream, we spent the last part of our afternoon just sitting by the water and taking in the views.
Ashley ended up taking us out to one last dinner spot before she was nice enough to drop us off at the airport.
It was so hard coming back to Toronto weather after literally tanning the day before! The adjustment for me took about a week! Thankfully, spring is in the air here now and can only get better from here.
