Happy Saturday, folks! :) With only a couple of weeks till Christmas, it's safe to say we are on full holiday mode. Most of the decorations are up, we've been watching holiday specials on TV, and the radio has been blasting with Christmas tunes all week long. I hear ya - sometimes I find non-stop Christmas songs to be a bit...much? That's why I'm really selective with what kinda tunes I'm listening to, so I thought I'd round up a few of my favourites!
1) Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride
This will probably seem like the most random song for me to pick, but it's my absolute favourite Christmas tune (just ask my sister and Brian; they both guessed it on the first try!) And I really only like this instrumental version by Leroy Anderson (don't even get me started on the versions with cheesy-sung lyrics...) It's just so upbeat and fun to listen to. I have memories playing this on my laptop while I was finishing essays for the semester in university and making my Christmas cards (You can also find this version playing in Elf, when Buddy is shopping around the department store).
2.) War Is Over (So This Is Christmas) by John Lennon
As a Beatles fan, this song goes without saying. It always gives me goosebumps!
3) 12 Days of Christmas by Bob & Doug McKenzie (the Hoser Brothers)
Alright, so this is more of a paradoy song than anything, but it's hilarious! The "Hoser Brothers" (you may recognize Rick Morranis) are fictional, stereotypical "Canuck" brothers that were regular characters on the comedy SCTV. They put together this goofy list of things they'd like to be given at Christmas. Just give it a listen, I bet you'll love it :)
4) Wizards of Winter, Carol of the Bells, and the Nutcracker Suite by the Trans-siberian Orchestra
Pretty much anything by the Trans-siberian Orchestra at Christmastime will result in a good, rockin' time!
5) Deck the Halls by Julie Andrews
I adore Julie Andrews and this beautiful version of the Christmas classic.
6) The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole
Such sweet childhood memories this song brings me while sitting in my mom's car during Christmastime. You can't go wrong.
7) Charlie Brown's Christmastime Is Here by Vince Guaraldi
This whole album is actually so wonderful. Brian recently gave it me as an early Christmas present so I can listen to it in the car on my way to work, and I haven't been listening to anything else since.
8) White Christmas by Bing Crosby
Need I say more? :)
9) All I Want for Christmas by Michael Bublé (and his whole Christmas album, pretty much)
Seriously, this whole album is one of the best! Such beautiful tunes sung by a great fellow Canadian.
10) Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee
Every time I hear this, I instantly think of Home Alone: the scene where he's throwing himself an overly-crowded Christmas party to off-set the bad guys.
11) I Believe In Father Christmas by Greg Lake
I love the acoustic guitar in this song, so lovely.
I'm probably forgetting about half a dozen more songs, that I'm sure will come to me afterwards! What are your favourite Christmas tunes this time of year?
