Happy Friday, Victoria-Day Long Weekend to my fellow Canadians! That's right, this weekend marks the long weekend already! And also the official kickoff of Summer (sometimes, I don't really get that, as it's still quite chilly out!)
So, why's it called Victoria Day? Well as Canadians, we're still under the British Commonwealth and the Queen is our head of state. Her birthday is actually May 24th, which is why you'll hear it's the May 2-4 weekend as well (even though, it's not actually the May 24th weekend!) But Two-Four can also refer to 24 packs of beer (which is usually consumed a lot during this weekend!)
So, hey! - naturally, as loyal Canadians, it's a great reason to celebrate, right? :)
Think of barbecues, beer, evenings sitting out on the patio and enjoying our Spring weather with good family and friends. Oh, and fireworks! Can't forget those! I have many happy memories as a child of the long weekend. We didn't typically go up to the cottage yet but instead, would hang around our home, relax, and catch some fireworks in the neighbourhood on Monday evening before school the next day.
Whatever you're up to this weekend, I hope you can get out and enjoy the weather! Have a good one! :)
