Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day! :D As I'm gearing up for any last minute planning, it got me thinking how I normally prep myself for a night of drinks (or, in this case, maybe a day?) If I know I'm going to be out on the town and enjoying some cocktails, I like to do what I can beforehand so when I do get home, I can literally just crash and take it easy the next day (hopefully!) Here are 7 ways I help to prepare myself!:
1) Getting the bed ready I know most nights when I come home from the drinks, I want more than anything than to pass out right away. I pull back the covers on my bed and leave my pink "headboard" body pillow and regular pillow in place. There were many nights in the past where I felt better sleeping upright to prevent the head-spinning from getting worse; that body pillow has been my saviour many times!
2) Brush my teeth Right before I start getting ready to meet some friends for a pre-drink, I try and make the effort to give my teeth a quick brush and floss. I know the likely hood of brushing my teeth properly when I get home are slim so this way, I get it out of the way and feel a little bit better about it later on.
3) Laying out pajamas Juuuuust in case I decide it's a good idea to go to bed in my current clothes, the pj's laid out on my bed will remind me that it's a much better idea to change into comfier, softer clothes :)
4) Stocking up the mini fridge I don't do this every time, but it's one of the advantages of having a mini fridge in your bedroom. I may turn it on for the evening in order to chill some extra water bottles or drinking boxes I can just easily grab once I get home (without having the agony of travelling to the refrigerators downstairs!).
5) Preparing the bedside table This is my main "attack zone" (as Brian calls it). My aunt used to always prepare the perfect bedside table for me and my cousin when we came home from the bars so everything was nearby and at arm's reach. I loved this idea and adapted the same routine for myself. Every night before the drinks flow, the table is set-up so it has the following: one or two cold water bottles, one or two drinking boxes (preferably Allen's peach juice), a small fan to keep my dehydrated body cooled down, Advil Liquid Gel (the BEST for getting rid of bad headaches or migraines in a matter of 10-15 minutes), and sometimes a granola bar or a small snack to help with the munchies.
6) Packing light and practical Whenever I'm out for a night on the town, I leave the purse behind and substitute it for a clutch. It's a perfect oversized wallet that has a wrist-band for easy access and it's much lighter in weight. I bring along my ID, a debit card, lip gloss, house keys, and some extra cash and bus tokens. Whether you're casually sitting around at a bar or busting a move on the dance floor, having a wrist-clutch is a sure fire way of keeping your personal belongings close at hand without it being a hassle.
7) Desperate Times: An Emergency Bowl Hopefully it doesn't amount to this level: but just in case, it's always handy to have a bowl near by in the event that you feel sick and can't make it to the bathroom in time (or in my case, trying to hide the fact that I am hungover from my mother as long as possible).
