I hope all my fellow Canadians had a beautiful Thanksgiving this past weekend! We had really nice weather and it was the perfect combination of relaxing and seeing family. Why is it always so hard to come back to work after a little long weekend? Hopefully everyone's putting a little extra caffeine in their coffee this morning ;)
Kicking Off the Long Weekend
I came home on Friday after work to Cartney enjoying the sunshine out on our front porch. You'd seriously think the little guy was a dog with the way he greets you!
Right away, I also noticed my mom put up some fall decoration around the house. If you can believe it - the only thing we were missing this year was a pumpkin! We'll have to make a run in the next week or so to complete our usual fall porch.
It really felt like a long week, so I was happy to come home, light a few scented candles, and watch some "fall" themed shows, like the OC's season 1 Thanksgiving episode and You've Got Mail.
Canada's Wonderland in the Fall
The next day, we finally made it out out to Canada's Wonderland! All summer, I'd been looking to plan a day for it but schedules either clashed - or it rained. And even then, it rained a bit in the morning! But just before 1 o'clock, it cleared up, the sun was out and turned out to be the perfect afternoon for a day on the rides.
The neat thing about going to Wonderland in October is the place is all decked up for their Halloween Haunt they have in the evenings till Halloween. I'd only ever gone to Wonderland in the summertime so it felt like an oxymoron seeing all the fall and Halloween decorations up!
There's actually quite a few perks to going to the park off-season: it's less crowded, the temperatures are comfortable and tickets are cheaper! We got to ride our favourite coasters like the Behemoth and Leviathan more than once because line-ups were so short! I think we'll probably continue this as a yearly tradition now.
We stopped to take a break for some food and Frankie got some Dippin' Dots he'd been craving all day. I'd heard of this unique dessert but never seen or tried it before!
It literally was like small ice cream pops in your mouth. So good!
One last selfie to end the day!
Thanksgiving weekends can always be a little busy in our house: my mom's birthday and my parents' anniversary also lies in the same weekend! We're actually saving the celebrations for another time so we could just focus on pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes this weekend. Brian's family is always way too generous and treated us to a yummy Italian dinner after Wonderland on Saturday (it's no wonder I fell asleep afterwards!) and on the Sunday, we had a quiet dinner at our house with Nonna.
I had bought pumpkin pie for dessert but instead we splurged for cheesecake (pumpkin pie was enjoyed the next day at breakfast ;)
While we were kicking back and enjoying some Friends Thanksgiving episodes, we suddenly noticed the sky outside - it looked like fire!
I couldn't believe it...we'd never seen it like that before! It only lasted a couple of minutes, but it was absolutely breathtaking.
It really was a nice ending to our weekend. As a co-worker of mine said to me this morning, "Another long weekend in the books gone!" Onto Halloween now!
