For the past few years, I've really gotten into the Canadian daytime show, The Social. It's like our version of the View (only b̶e̶t̶t̶e̶r̶...) and in fact, Brian's mom was actually the one who got me into this show. Whenever I went over to their place, she always had the Social on in the background while she was colouring or playing games on her iPad. Over time, I found myself growing attached to the personalities of the hosts and loving the segments they talked about. I don't watch too much TV, so the Social easily became my favourite passtime shows. When I'm at work, I'm usually streaming it during my lunch breaks even if it's just to catch up on the beginning monologues. All summer, I'd been planning to attend a live taping of the show with my mom in downtown Toronto, but they ended up cancelling the one show we were set to go to. Through a couple of emails with Derek, the fabulous audience coordinator, he reimbursed my (free) tickets for a September date. I could only afford to go to a Friday show, and Brian happened to be off most Fridays - we made it a date!
Walking into the studio of the Social was a little mind-boggling for me. I literally froze as I took in the view of it, to the point where the audience coordinator had to call me twice to bring me to my seat! The neat thing about going to a taping was - it's live! It was so cool to see what goes on behind the scenes and how much work it takes to get the next segment ready, all in the span of a quick commercial break. And of course - it was awesome to see the hosts up close and personal! They were so incredibly witty and charasmatic as always.
We obviously weren't allowed to take any photos during airtime but at commercial breaks, we could take as many as we wanted. The hosts would get touched up with make-up quickly and even converse a bit with the audience.
Because we sat in the back row, it was a little more difficult to spot us on TV - but I managed to find a couple of clips where you could just see us ;)
Once the show was done, we got to go up and meet them quickly - my favourite part! I was especially excited to meet the hilarious, Jess Allen (on the far right with the glasses) She's not always a regular on the show, but she happened to be there that day - much to my delight! I'd been tweeting her in the hopes of meeting her and when I finally did, I stupidly said, "I was the one who kept tweeting you!" (as if she doesn't have other fans in the world...) But she was very excited and gracious, just like they all were. On the far left, Melissa was asking Brian how long we'd been going out and how we met. Brian answered, "Five and a half years. We actually met in grade school" to which Melissa responded with a, "Shut up!"
^ Brian looking so thrilled to be in the presence of all these beautiful ladies! Haha, in all honesty though, we really had a great day and I can't wait to get out to another show one day again.
Thank you to the ladies of the Social for being so great, and for everyone who works so hard behind-the-scenes!
